New Missions

Somehow I've managed to find the time (between adding new features to the Android client and also existing in real-life) to create 2 new missions for Stellar Forces:

Crash Site is set on a big sprawling open landscape: an escape shuttle has crashed and the lone survivor is somewhere in the wreckage.  He is surrounded by enemy units that are advancing, but a small band of rescuers are trying to get to him and escort him back to safety.

The Raid is set on a much smaller map, and has been primarily designed for the smaller Android client.  Set in a small building which houses the planet's worst scum, a squad of galactic police must raid it and kill all the gang members.

Android Gameplay Video

Here's a video I made of me winning The Assassins, and shows how the Android client plays.  Apologies for the blurredness; I recorded it using another phone which couldn't quite seem to focus on the screen.

Free Android Client Released

I've just released a free version of the Android client of Stellar Forces. It's limited to only playing The Assassins and Moonbase Assault missions, but should give new players a chance to decide if they like the game or not before getting the full version.

Needless to say, I've implemented all the new pseudo-3D graphics, unless I've missed a plant pot or something.

Stellar Forces: New Unit Graphics

They're a bit smaller than the original unit images, but they have to be in order to fit into the tile. I think they look pretty good though.

Android Now Has Slightly Better Graphics!

Spot the difference between these two screenshots of the old and new versions of Stellar Forces for Android. This is the old one:

and this is the new one.

It's only a small change but IMHO makes quite a difference. I just need to recreate the unit sprites to be at a slight angle now. More work. Jeez!

Proximity Scanner Added

As well as loads of other additions since I last blogged, I've now added a new piece of equipment: Proximity Scanner

This should make The Stardrive mission much better for the side that needs to find it.

Another new features of note is "close-combat opportunity fire", which means that a unit will attack an enemy unit that walks in front of them (if they have enough APs of course).
